2:27 The knight only has to be promoted when it reaches the back 2 ranks. On the 3rd-from-the-back, it still has another valid knight move, so promotion is still only optional there.

Shogi is easy enough to learn if you understand Chess. It's certainly much easier to learn than fucking Mahjong. I've spent a good 10 hours trying to learn Japanese Mahjong and I still have absolutely no idea.

I've learned the basic move of chess in less than 10 min's. But this shoge daymn.

I watched this as someone looking to learn how to teach shogi to beginners. While I was aware of the yakuza games had shogi, I never expected the best English tutorial for the game in general to be for a video game.
